The first day that me, Michelle Grape, could have...
So, I started my second semester back at school on Wednesday. I was pretty relieved to be busy again, and was looking forward to my first day back. I always have a little bit of anxiety about the first class meeting though. There is always an oral roll call, and usually the teachers make you tell them and the class something "unique" about yourself. This first hour of every class never gets easier. The first mental debate that I have is...do i tell them something real? or do I make a wild story up? or do I go for the funny? or do i say something awkward just because that would funny to? Because my name doesn't come up until the "G's" always buys me a little time. So I listen to other people tell awkward stories about their boyfriend, or their grandma that passed away over Christmas break. REALLY? thats the foot you want to lead with? I always feel so AWKWARD...as a spectator and as a listener!
The second mental debate that takes place is, are the going to say my name right? Answer: NOPE! NEVER! I get called everything but Michal, and everything but Grappe. I get michelle, mykel, michel, grape, grappy. So after every teacher sounds out my name and looks around confused in the sea of faces starring back at them. Me, blonde, girl raise my hand. So immediately i have to explain my name because they have a look on their face full of question marks. I usually respond with, Michael but without the "e", and Crap but with a "g". This happened 3 times on day one. One of my professors is Korean, and i knew immediately she would especially struggle with my name so i was watching her stare at my name in confusion. After I explained to her my name situation, she responds with...." I had no idea Michael was gender neutral".I tried to say that it's from the bible, but she didn't acknowledge it. Then says, " Are you okay with that?" I laughed along with the other 70 people in my class. Because for the people in my class, this was their 3rd time to go through my name dilemma that day as well. Anyways...long story short....The name Michal Grappe is a bia for me and everyone involved when it comes to the beginning of school.
So, in between the classes their was a mini break. I was able to go home and get some more coffee which i needed because I dont know if yall remember? but the high was like 22 degrees!? I'm dressed cute, and was actually running a smidgen late because of this little cup of coffee that I wanted to brew so badly. Im in the parking lot. Have my bags, door open, and i reach for this little cup of coffee that i waited so patiently for. And....the....lid...falls...off. Coffee covered me in places i never thought was possible.NEVER. THOUGHT. So i stand outside and had images of myself throwing the cup and shattering it into a million pieces. I thought to myself, "yes that would make me feel better, to have some revenge on this stupid cup." I looked around but there was nowhere to throw the cup to release my anger. I could feel the moisture starting to freeze onto my body, it was so cold outside. I assessed the damage and realized there is no possible way that i can walk into my first day of class looking like i peed and pooped my pants. I look in my backseat and see some gym clothes and Mark's north face jacket.
Let me just say, this was the first time in my life that i saw gym clothes and it brought a smile to my face. Usually, the look of dread consumes me.
I changed clothes in the parking lot and walked into class not dressed cute anymore and reeking of coffee. This is the kind of day i need to learn to expect, just because these days lurk around frequent corners in my life. I'm just glad that I can laugh at these stories and remind myself of how bad it can get when i have those "WHHYYYYYY!!!!!?????????" days.

Education plan
I am kind of pissed at myself for not staying true to that calling on my life but felt like I was doing what I was supposed to for the time being. Therefore, last year I made the official decision to get my Master's in Speech Language Pathology through the levelling program at Texas Tech, then Graduate School. So this semester was time for me to apply after much thought and conversations with my parents, my husband, husband's parents, and such. SO I am glad to say that I just submitted my application for the levelling program at Tech and without hesitation I will pursue this new road.
Now, how does working with deaf children tie into all of this? I didn't know at first and was just praying that it would be revealed to me. And this is what i found out. I was looking up PhD degrees with a masters in speech path, and at Texas Tech it is Audiology. WHAT!? How crazy! I have been blindly following the spirits tugs to here and then there and here again and there again. Today, I felt like I had a " clouds open up and the sun shines through with the sound of angels singing" moment. I know that I shouldn't be surprised because it's God, but I'M SURPRISED!!! I feel like I kind of know where I'm going now and it makes me excited even though I will still have many years of school. I know it is going to be H-A-R-D! But It's easy to keep your eyes on the prize when you are doing it for the glory of God.

Church Clothes
So tonight, I was trying to convince Lindsay (my little cousin, 8 years old) to pick out her church clothes by herself. I wanted her to do it alone because I would go in there and "help" her but all of the options I laid out would get vetoed. She would ultimately wear what she wanted. So, I figured...she could pick them out by herself. As I was sitting in the living room, she was in her bedroom staring at her closet. This is how it went:
L-" Should I wear long sleeve or short sleeve?"
M - "Long."
L - "Why?"
M - "Because it's going to be cold."
L - " Why is it going to be cold?"
M - " I dont know...it just is!"
L - " like...how cold?"
M - " I dont know! just...COLD!"
L - "Like freezing?"
M - "no!"
L - " Just a little bit cold or really cold or kind of cold?"
M - " i dont know...probably pretty cold."
L - " is pretty cold the same as really cold?"
My final response, " for the love of God..."
She picked out a dress with white tights and furry boots.

Take me where the sunlight glows...
We are jumping off this tommorrow! Nana and I with our fishin gear!
Fishing River The Bulldog made the fishing expendition!
Today we ate brunch at this place called Luna, which happens to be Gran's favorite restaurant. We proceeded to go an adventurous quest for fish all afternoon. Today, I discovered I prefer fly fishing over regular fishing. I love being outside and the only sound is water crashing into the rocks with never ending movement. You are also constantly moving up stream or across to get to the other bank. I like being active in my quest for fish! We came home empty handed, however, are not discouraged enough to throw in the towel. Anna and I are continuing our quest tomorrow at 7 a.m. We will not fail! haha.
After we made it home, it was dinner mode, the pressure and rush to get dinner on the table in an hour for our guests was chaotic, in a sense. Mark cooked steaks, and stuffed jalepenos. Anna and I were in charge of preparing, setting the table, and dishes. Bud and Janet were our guests tonight. They live in one of the Grappe's cabins and take care of the one we all stay at in the summer and winter when we aren't here. They also get the cabin ready for us when we are planning a trip here. They are so wonderful and full of stories. You can see the wisdom in their eyes and love in their hearts. I enjoy every word that comes out of their mouths with a profound acknowledgement that their voices are 70-something years old.
After second helpings of food and Bud's third helping of a heaping bowl of banana pudding, the only logical thing to do was to get into the hot tub. Anna, Gran, Janet, and I all sat inside the hot tub and talked about parents, kids, plans for present and future while being immersed in fresh, crisp, and COLD air with views of the mountains that were so soothing.
As of now, Us young'ens are feet away from each other watching Hot Rod and dispersed among couches and recliners, hardly speaking because of exhaustion, except the occasional laughs at Barkley doing something ridiculous. Its about that time...sleep calls my name!! I will post pics of all the fish anna and I catch tomorrow with expert coaching of my lovely husband!

Then there is morning, each one feels like the first...
Today anna and I got to sleep in while the boys went fly fishing til this afternoon. It has been raining all day, which is the most welcoming weather in my opinion. Its been cold and glorious. Ive been bundled up, get to wear my scarf and cuddle up with a blanket and watch girl movies while the rain hits the floor to ceiling wall of windows. I love love love being up here! Its been really peaceful and relaxing. I was listening to The Weepies : Antarctica, one of my favorite songs by the way, and felt like i really understood the song, FINALLY! haha. Its about having a connection with a place where you feel most like yourself and just being in the presence of its surroundings makes you forget about all the clutter in life. Its such a beautiful thing. For me, in this place and takin in the beauty of nature makes me feel at peace. I feel most like myself when i am here with an incredible abundancy of clarity. Its always nice to sit back and put life in perspective. The things that weigh your thoughts are rapidly forgotten, and being thankful for all the absolutes in life always emerge. Colorado, Lake city, these mountains, this cabin, this river, this flower is comfort to me. There is no pressure to be anything or anyone, the only demand is to be present. Maybe its because of the lack of society for hundered of miles, or the fact we are literally in the middle of nowhere, tucked in between moutains, and there is such a simplicity to life here. I desire SIMPLICITY! I want to not fix my hair for weeks at a time, and wear sweats every morning where matching doesnt matter, walk a short distance to the only grocery store for 100 miles, read by the river every morning, run through mountains, and fly fish every afternoon....one day, for now i have to settle for summers.

No bread crumb trail to follow through your days...
The boys started their class today at 3. I, took a long needed and quiet nap in the hotel and later joined my mother in law to take pictures of the town and such. She has been taking this photography class and I see her stuff and tell her " teach me how to do that!", so today i learned a lot. Here are some pictures i took today!
The plus about taking photo lessons with her is that we have the same camera, therefore being really easy to translate. We eventually met up with the boys for dinner, all of which were beeming with smiles like their lives have changed. The guy who is teaching the class took us all out to dinner with his son and son's girlfriend to this great restaurant. The boys talked about guns and hunting the whole time, normal day for the grappe family. Needless to say, the boys cant wait to continue the class and shoot tomorrow morning starting at 6 am until dinner, I believe. Tonight after dinner, Mark, Michael, Aaron, and I went to watch the new terminator movie, which was INTENSE! I have to watch ultra-masculine movies being in a male dominant family. On the way home, Mark drove without the lights on, we got pulled over! He didnt have his license and wasnt registered to drive the rental car, to our surprise the police man gave him a warning, thank goodness. The man has two outstanding tickets already ( 1-littering on arbor day! 2-parking the wrong direction on a street). So now we are in the hotel rooms listening to the rain hit the window and resting for the long day ahead. Its been a great day!

Adventures in Utah
First of all, we had a three hour layover in Albuquerque, NM and i seriously believe it is the butthole of the United States. When we finally got here, we went to the Mormon temple and the took our own tour of the grounds and took pictures of it. My youngest brother in law, seriously is making a mormon documentary while we are here and its funny. Anyways when we were taking our own tour, the mormon employees wanted so desperately to talk and make sure we were mormon and when we werent, the comedy began. I felt a little preyed on, and in a sense got a different perspective as far as ministering to people. I felt like i knew what its like for an unbeliever to get preached at on the street and I always believed that loving a person first and foremost regardless of all circumstances is the best route to witness to someone instead of beating the crap out of them with the bible and try to get into bible fight. It really is an eye opener when your on the flip side, and know so surely that they are wrong, and them think so surely that we are wrong. So....I prayer walked all over that place, haha." HA, TAKE THAT!", i thought. So on a lighter note, Im making a list of things about Salt Lake City, Utah. These are things so far:
1) MORMONS are everywhere, haha
2) Fanny packs might as well be a religion as well
The list will continue throughout the trip...and here are a some pictures i took today.
This is picture of a building under construction and there are two orange boxes up there that are potties! I took a picture because i thought it was funny for one to be up on a 5th floor, and because i thought it would suck to be the person to bring those down.
Welp tootles, haha

First Blog!
So here I am, in Lamesa, babysitting, watching slumdog millionaire with my little sister anna, craving some coffee on this cloudy day, and blogging. My family decided to take a mini vaca without their children, leaving me to hold down the fort, scary right?! I Often wonder why they trust me so much. Although, the time i spend with my sweet anna is very much needed. Anyways, Im trying this out to occupy my summer time and so forth and we will see how it goes!
